Quick start

Everything on the downloader screen, explained. Read this if you already have a pin link and want to know what each button and message does.

Start with a link to one pin

PinDownloader needs the address of a single public pin, such as pinterest.com/pin/123456789/ or a short pin.it/AbC123 link. Country domains like pinterest.co.uk or de.pinterest.com work too. Board, profile, and search links contain many pins, so they can't be downloaded.

The download box

  • Link field: paste the pin link here. You can paste the whole message from Pinterest's Share menu; the link is picked out automatically.
  • Paste: reads your clipboard and starts the lookup if it finds a pin link. Your browser may ask for permission, and you can always paste by hand instead.
  • Download: looks up the pin and shows what can be saved.
  • Cancel and ×: stop a lookup or clear the box to start again.

The result card

  • Preview: video pins show a play button; image and GIF pins open full size when you tap them.
  • Pin type badge: Video pin, Image pin, or GIF pin.
  • Title and author: taken from the pin, with a link back to it on Pinterest.
  • Download options: grouped as Video, Animated GIF, Image, or Cover image. The first option in the main group is the best available, and 720p or higher video is marked HD.

Downloading a file

Select Download on any option. The button shows progress while the file transfers through our proxy, and your browser saves it when it finishes. Select the button again to cancel. The arrow button beside each option opens the file directly from Pinterest in a new tab, which helps if your browser blocks the download.

What the messages mean

  • That doesn't look like a link: the box doesn't contain a web address. Copy the link again.
  • Not a Pinterest link: the address is from another website.
  • That link isn't a single pin: it's a board, profile, or search page. Open the pin and copy its own link.
  • Pin unavailable: the pin may be private, deleted, or briefly unreachable. Check it opens in a private browser window.
  • Nothing to download: no video, GIF, or image could be found on the pin.
  • Pinterest took too long / Service problem: a temporary issue. Wait a moment and select Try again.
  • Download failed: the file transfer stopped. Try again, pick another option, or use the open-in-new-tab button.
