Pinterest has no download button for videos, but every public video pin is backed by an ordinary MP4 file. To save it, copy the pin's link, paste it into the Pinterest video downloader, check the preview, and download the MP4. The steps are the same on a phone or a computer; only the place the file lands is different.
The short version
This works for public pins only. Secret boards, private accounts, and deleted pins can't be downloaded.
Before you start
You need the link to one Pinterest pin, a web browser, and enough free space for the file. You don't need a Pinterest account, the Pinterest app, a browser extension, or any password. Check three things first:
- The link opens a single pin. Board, profile, and search links contain many pins and don't identify one video.
- The pin is a video. Image pins give you an image instead, and animated pins give you a GIF; the image downloader and GIF downloader pages explain those.
- You're allowed to keep it. A public pin can be viewed by anyone, but that doesn't mean it can be reposted.
How to download a Pinterest video, step by step
Pinterest moves its menus around from time to time, so look for either a Share icon or the ••• (more) menu on the pin.
1. Copy the Pinterest pin link
Open the video pin. In the app, tap Share (or the ••• menu) and choose Copy link. The app usually gives you a short link that looks like https://pin.it/AbC123. On a computer, you can instead copy the address from the browser bar while the pin is open, for example https://www.pinterest.com/pin/123456789/.
Some share menus copy a whole sentence, such as "Check out this Pin on Pinterest" followed by the link. That's fine: paste the whole thing and the downloader picks out the link. The pin.it guide has more detail.
2. Paste the link into PinDownloader
Open the download box, paste the link, and select Download. The Paste button can read your clipboard if your browser allows it; otherwise, long-press or right-click in the box and paste as usual. Looking up the pin takes a few seconds.
3. Check the preview
The result shows the pin's cover image with a play button. Play it to make sure it's the video you wanted. Below the preview you'll see the available video files, highest resolution first, plus the cover image if you'd like a still.
4. Download the MP4
Select Download next to the resolution you want. The button shows progress while the file transfers, and your browser saves it when it's done. Press the same button again to cancel. The small arrow button next to each option opens the file directly in a new tab, which is a useful fallback if your browser blocks downloads.
How to save a Pinterest video on iPhone or iPad
- In the Pinterest app, open the video pin, tap Share, and choose Copy link.
- Open Safari (or another browser) and go to PinDownloader.
- Paste the link, select Download, and then select Download next to the resolution you want.
- When Safari asks, confirm the download. The file goes to the Downloads folder in the Files app.
To move the video into Photos, open it in the Files app, tap the Share button, and choose Save Video. If you can't find the file, check the downloads list in Safari (the arrow icon in the address bar) before downloading it again.
How to save a Pinterest video on Android
- In the Pinterest app, open the video pin, tap Share, and choose Copy link.
- Open Chrome (or another browser) and go to PinDownloader.
- Paste the link, select Download, and pick a resolution.
- Open the browser's download list or the Downloads folder in your file manager.
Most Android browsers save to the Downloads folder. Your gallery app may take a moment to show a new video; open it from Files or Downloads if it hasn't appeared yet.
How to download a Pinterest video on Windows or Mac
Open the pin on pinterest.com and copy the address from the browser bar, or copy the link on your phone and send it to your computer. Paste it into PinDownloader, choose a resolution, and download. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari show the finished file in their download panel; by default it lands in your Downloads folder.
Video quality and file format
Pinterest videos are saved as MP4 files, which play on practically every phone, computer, and editing app. Many Pinterest videos are delivered at 720p. When a pin offers several resolutions, they are listed from highest to lowest, and anything 720p or higher is marked HD.
- The best option is what Pinterest stores. PinDownloader doesn't upscale, so a pin uploaded in low resolution stays that way.
- No watermark is added. Logos or text the creator put in the video stay as they are.
- Sound is kept whenever Pinterest's MP4 includes it. Animated pins are usually silent.
- The cover image is listed separately if you'd like a still frame.
Troubleshooting
"That link isn't a single pin"
You've copied a board, profile, or search link. Open the individual video pin and copy its link instead.
"Pin unavailable" or "Nothing to download"
The pin may be on a secret board, from a private account, or deleted. Try opening the link in a private browser window without signing in. If Pinterest asks you to log in or shows an error there, the downloader can't read it either.
A pin.it link doesn't work
Short links occasionally expire or redirect somewhere other than a pin. Open the short link in your browser, wait for the pin to load, and copy the full pinterest.com address from the address bar.
The download stops or fails
Check your connection and try again, or choose a lower resolution if one is listed. As a fallback, use the arrow button next to the option to open the video in a new tab, then save it from your browser's menu.
The video plays instead of downloading
That happens when you use the open-in-new-tab button. Use your browser's Save or Download option from that tab, or go back and use the main Download button instead.
Copyright and permission
Videos on Pinterest belong to the people who made them, and pinning doesn't change that. Saving a recipe video to watch offline in your kitchen is a very different thing from reposting it to your own account. Ask the creator before you share or reuse their work, and keep credit attached. The terms and privacy page explain how PinDownloader works. This guide is general information, not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free to download Pinterest videos with PinDownloader?
Yes. There's no charge, no account, and nothing to install.
Can I download a video from a secret board?
No. Only pins that anyone can open without signing in are supported. PinDownloader doesn't bypass Pinterest's privacy settings.
Why is there only one resolution?
Pinterest decides which versions to keep for each video. Many pins only have a 720p MP4, and that's the file you'll get.
Do I need the Pinterest app?
No. You only need the pin's link. The app is simply the easiest place to copy it from on a phone.
Can I download Pinterest videos on a computer without the app?
Yes. Open the pin on pinterest.com, copy the address from the browser bar, and paste it into PinDownloader.
