Copying pin links and pin.it short links
Every download starts with a link to one pin. Here is where to find it on each device, and what to do when a short link misbehaves.

What is a pin.it link?
When you share a pin from the Pinterest app, it usually gives you a short link such as https://pin.it/AbC123. It's a redirect: opening it takes you to the full pin address, which looks like https://www.pinterest.com/pin/123456789/. PinDownloader accepts both forms and follows the short link for you.
Copy a pin link in the Pinterest app
- Open the pin so it fills the screen.
- Tap the Share icon, or the ••• menu if you don't see one.
- Choose Copy link.
Some versions of the app copy a sentence along with the link, for example "Check out this Pin on Pinterest". You can paste that whole message into PinDownloader; the link is picked out automatically.
Copy a pin link on a computer
Open the pin on pinterest.com. Either copy the address from the browser bar, or select the ••• menu or the Share icon on the pin and choose Copy link. Make sure the pin itself is open; the address of your home feed or a board won't work.
Links that work and links that don't
- Works:
pin.it/AbC123,pinterest.com/pin/123456789/, and country domains such aspinterest.co.uk,pinterest.de, orfr.pinterest.com. - Doesn't work: board links (
pinterest.com/name/board-name/), profile links (pinterest.com/name/), search results, and links to secret boards or private accounts.
When a short link fails
- Open it first. Paste the pin.it link into your browser and let it load. If it opens a pin, copy the full pinterest.com address from the address bar and use that instead.
- Check where it goes. A short link can point to a board or a profile rather than a single pin. In that case, open the pin you want and copy its own link.
- Copy it again. Messaging apps sometimes cut links short or add punctuation. Copying straight from Pinterest avoids that.
- It may have expired. If the link opens an error page, the pin may have been deleted or made private.
